Experiencing the Fitness Cruise
Staying Fit on a Cruise Ship
Fun and fitness are two words that some people find impossible to pair. How can one have fun while staying physically fit and healthy? For some people, dieting and exercising are painful activities, since these deprive them of carbohydrate-rich food. Hence, many travellers include food trips but exclude fitness activities when planning their itineraries. It is a fact that cruising is known for three words: food, lounging and tour. Basically, when people think of a cruise, they imagine themselves in a luxurious lifestyle, sitting on one of those royal chairs and comfortably shaded under an umbrella while nibbling delectable desserts.

Fitness Facility
However, a vacation like this should also be accompanied with constant exercise and balanced diet. This is why there are amenities for health and fitness inside a cruise ship. One of these is a “fitness centre.” Cruise ships value health and fitness because it would be very unpleasant for travellers to get too sick to enjoy themselves. The cruise industry is finding ways to implement healthy options, such as coming up with fitness programs and healthy menus. Fitness cruises offer low-calorie meal options. In that case, fruits and vegetables top the menu. Fresh fruit juices and low sugar content beverages are also available to complement the low-calorie meal. It would not hurt if you also do a 20-minute treadmill routine or join in group exercises like belly dancing, aerobics and yoga.
Here are other ways in which you can stay fit on a cruise trip:
1. Walk it out. Elevators are usually overloaded in a cruise ship. So, instead of waiting for the next elevator to accommodate you, just do the basic exercise by walking around the ship.
2. Bring fitness class into your cabin. If you do not feel like joining the group exercise because you are shy, you may do your own version of aerobics and yoga sessions in your cabin accommodation. You can also do floor sit-ups and push-ups.
3. Do not skip meals but eat in lesser volumes. It is wrong to skip a meal and then eat plenty of food during the next meal. You might as well eat complete meals but in lesser volumes. Substitute rice with wheat bread or French bread and say goodbye to excessive consumption of soda.
